About Darryl
Demps (Darryl Demps Jr.) is a visual artist and videographer whose work navigates the intersections of memory, transformation, and spiritual insight. With a practice rooted in wood carving, painting, and digital photography, he weaves personal narratives into textured compositions that explore mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual transitions. Inspired by dreams, visions, nature, and his Christian faith, Demps channels his storytelling through materials such as wood, fire, and gold leaf, often integrating the Shou Sugi Ban technique he honed while working under artist Gil Bruvel.
Apart from his studio practice, Demps is also the host of Fine Art & Friends, a podcast dedicated to conversations with creatives about their processes, challenges, and insights. His recent projects include videography work, interview-based storytelling, and collaborative documentation of art exhibitions. His dedication to both visual and narrative storytelling recently led to a feature in Voyage Austin, where he shares his artistic evolution and philosophy.
